ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Shaun Joseph Tavernier rose to a 1st place victory in the 202 Division at the 2011 Toronto Pro Bodybuilding Championships. Tavernier had all the elements -- mass, conditioning, shape - to lead the field. Posing a close threat, Canada-based IFBB Pro Mboya Edwards was named the 2nd place finisher. Olympic weightlifter and IFBB Pro Amit Sapir landed in 3rd place.

The remaining field: IFBB Pro Louis Joseph (4th), IFBB Pro Luc Molines (5th), IFBB Pro Jason Joseph (6th), IFBB Pro Vinny Galanti (7th), IFBB Pro John Frederick Arendsz (8th), Canadian IFBB Pro Vince Wawryk (9th), Canadian IFBB Pro Henderson Thorne (10th), Canadian IFBB Pro IFBB Pro Robert Belisle (11th), IFBB Pro Jason Marcovici (12th), IFBB Pro Gianluca Catapano (13th), and IFBB Pro Cvetko Stojmenovski (14th).

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top 3 IFBB Pro League athletes in the 202 Division at the Toronto Pro Show earn Olympia qualifications to challenge Olympia 202 Showdown Champion IFBB Pro Kevin English at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas (September 16). Shaun Tavernier's last showing was a 5th place finish at the 2011 British Grand Prix in March. He earned his IFBB Pro card after competing at the UKBFF British National Championships and Arnold Amateur Bodybuilding Championships at the Arnold Sports Festival (which, of course, also hosts the professional-division IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships).

Andrew Oye's Verdict: With top 202-Divison contenders (IFBB Pro Jose Raymond, IFBB Pro Eduardo Correa, IFBB Pro Flex Lewis, etc.) absent from the lineup, three first-timers had a shot at qualifications for the Olympia 202 Showdown, including Edwards, who had previously collected five 1st place finishes at the CBBF Canadian Championships (in 2000, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008). As for Tavernier, as good as he appeared in Toronto, I wonder how athletes with his stature -- at just 5'2" and 220 lbs. in the off-season -- will fare when the 202 and Under Division officially changes to the 212 and Under Division after the 2011 Olympia Weekend.
