ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Phil Heath won 1st place at the 2011 Asian Grand Prix Pro Bodybuilding Championships (a.k.a. Sheru Classic) in Mumbai, India. IFBB Pro Jay Cutler was given 2nd place. IFBB Pro K. Greene took 3rd place. IFBB Pro Victor Martinez finished in 4th place, and IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf landed in 5th place. Some of the remaining field: IFBB Pro Toney Freeman (6th), IFBB Pro Michael Kefalianos (7th), IFBB Pro Alfonso Del Rio (8th), IFBB Pro Mohammed Touri (9th).

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the Top 3 IFBB Pro League athletes at the inaugural Asian Grand Prix Pro Bodybuilding Championships earn Olympia qualifications to challenge newly crowned Mr. Olympia Phil Heath at next year's Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas. The event was promoted as the first IFBB-sanctioned professional bodybuilding and figure contest in Asia. Initially, "Quadrasaurus" IFBB Pro Branch Warren (winner of the Arnold Sports Festival's 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships) had been slated to compete but missed the competition due to a quadriceps injury in August. Also, IFBB Pro Marius Dohne was on the pre-contest competitors list but did not compete.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: As expected, the brand new Mr. Olympia Phil Heath won the competition, and the final Top 5 placings read exactly like that of the 2011 Olympia, which occurred just a week ago. IFBB Pro Toney Freeman bumped up to 6th place in India (maybe because the 2011 Olympia's 6th place finisher, 2008 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, did not compete there?). Some have criticized the placing of Jay Cutler (a 4-time Mr. Olympia and Sandow trophy winner), especially since he had acknowledged during the pre-contest press conference, "I am not one-hundred percent." As I previously mentioned, it would be somewhat perplexing (barring major physical changes) if the results of a post-Olympia contest did not mirror that of the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding," which ranks the world's best physiques.
