The Item: Legends Update, Career Updates, Special Achievement
The Scoop: Recently reported: Hollywood actor and legendary IFBB Pro Lou Ferrigno appeared at the Los Angeles Fitness Expo over the weekend.
With 40 years in the bodybuilding game, 59-year-old Ferrigno maintains his passion for the sport out of necessity. "It made me who I am," Ferrigno explains. "Growing up, I had nothing else and this was my only way to survive."
The discipline required for the sport carried over to the other areas of his life and contributed to his success. The 2003 IFBB Pro League Hall of Fame Inductee attributes his lasting fan support to his reliability. "I give them a lot of hope and motivation, because they know there are a few icons in bodybuilding like me and Arnold [Schwarzenegger]"
The "So What?": Speaking of Schwarzenegger, the 2011 Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival will honor Ferrigno with the Lifetime Achievement Award next month (March 5). "It means a lot. I'm honored to be receiving [the award] from [Arnold], because the last time we were on stage together we were competing in 1974."
Andrew Oye's Verdict: From entertainment to business ventures to motivational speaking to his role as a deputy sheriff, Ferrigno says he finds ways to give back to society. Here's hoping the former star of TV's "Incredible Hulk" gets his latest proposed project to airwaves - "The Incredible Ferrignos," a program he says will inspire other families toward fitness.
