ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Kevin English was declared the 1st place winner of the 212 Division at the 2012 New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships. IFBB Po Sami Alhaddad took 2nd place. Last year's 202 (now 212) New York Pro Champion IFBB Pro Jose Raymond dropped to 3rd place this year. IFBB Pro Marco Rivera finished in the 4th place, and New Jersey's IFBB Pro Guy Cisternino in 5th place.

Some of the remaining field: IFBB Pro Mboya Edwards (6th), IFBB Pro Raul Carrasco Jimenez (7th), IFBB Pro Milton Holloway (9th), IFBB Pro Panexce Pierre (10th), IFBB Pro Luis Santiago (11th), IFBB Pro Luis Santa (12th), and IFBB Pro Naor Ziv (13th).

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the New York Pro is a Tier 3 contest, one of few to award more IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series points per placing than Tier 4 contests. In this case: 1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 5 Points, 3rd - 4 Points, 4th - 3 Points, 5th - 2 Points, which apply to IFBB Pro League athletes' eligibility to compete in the Olympia 212 Showdown at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (September 29) in Las Vegas. Kevin English had won the New York Pro in 2010 but skipped the event last year. In class-swapping news, IFBB Pro Vaughan E., who bumped up from 212 to Open, finished in 6th place in that division; meanwhile, IFBB Pro Milton Holloway, who dropped from Open to 212, finished in 9th place in that division.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: To date, with the exception of a 2nd place finish against IFBB Pro David Henry at the 2008 Olympia 202 Showdown, Kevin English has won every Olympia Weekend 212 (formerly 202) Division pro contest in which he has competed. Yet, in a case of placings vs. perception, there remains an almost consistent post-contest grumbling of mixed reaction among bodybuilding fans about English's physique. Both sides probably wonder, what gives? Maybe more chances to create/reward more "stars" in the lightweight class would help. Will IFBB Pro League athletes who compete in the 212 Division eventually gain opportunities for additional high-level titles when competitions like the Arnold Sports Festival's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships host contests for them?
