The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results
The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Kai Greene garnered a 1st place victory in the Open Division at the 2011 New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships. The crowd at the Tribeca Performing Arts Theater went wild for Greene's mutant-like muscle, which dominated the remainder of the field. The consistent shape and symmetry of IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel gave him 2nd place. Leapfrogging over several pre-contest favorites, IFBB Pro Craig Richardson took the 3rd place position. IFBB Pro Lionel Beyeke, an impressively shaped athlete, received 4th place. In his pro debut, IFBB Pro Robert Burneika landed in 5th place.
The "So What?": Unlike most IFBB Pro League contests that qualify the Top 3 placers to compete at "The O," the Top 5 at the New York Pro qualify to compete at the 2011 Olympia (September 16). This was Greene's first showing since his recent switch in contest-prep coaches. In his pro debut, IFBB Pro Jason Huh finished in 8th place. Popular IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan was relegated to 11th place.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: The first pro victory for IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar (who has competed in a total of five 2011 contests, thus far) was the 2010 New York Pro. Instead of trying to defend the title at this year's contest, where he dropped to 9th place, perhaps he should have taken the rest of the season to prep for the 2011 Olympia, for which he had already qualified at three previous events.
