ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: Career Updates, Contest Preparation, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Announced: IFBB Pro Evan Centopani announced that he will not compete at the 2011 Olympia in Las Vegas (September 16). The 29 -year-old has a full life of circumstances off the stage that prevent him from stepping on any stages for the remainder of the year.

"Earlier in the year, I was thinking I want to do the Olympia. Now that things are coming up..." says Centopani. "I'm looking at where I would have to be [physically] getting ready for the Olympia. I think it would be in my best interest to wait one more time, come in strong at the [2012] Arnold Classic, and know that I'm going to go from there to the [2012] Olympia."

The "So What?": The "things coming up" refer to the fact that Evan Centopani is expecting a newborn child and building a new home this summer, which complicates preparation for the biggest contest of the year. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Centopani earned an Olympia qualification to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend and to challenge 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler by winning the inaugural 2011 IFBB FLEX Pro Bodybuilding Championships in Santa Monica, California, back in February.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Ironically, Evan Centopani made this announcement about postponing his Olympia debut (for a second time) while he was a spectator at this year's New York Pro Bodybuilding Championships -- the contest he won in 2009, which was his pro debut after earning his IFBB Pro card at the 2007 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships. It was expected that, as a brand-new rookie, the Bridgeport, Connecticut, native might opt to bypass the 2009 Olympia, even though he had won a major contest. (The NY Pro, formerly the Night of Champions, has been previously won by top IFBB Pro League athletes like Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone, IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, IFBB Pro Lee Labrada and IFBB Pro Phil Heath.)

However, Centopani has set high expectations with his victory in California (over 2008 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson, IFBB Pro Fouad Abiad, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and IFBB Pro Ben Pakulski) and then a respectable 4th place finish at the Arnold Sports Festival's 2011 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships (behind winner IFBB Pro Branch Warren and ahead of IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel). Fans really want him to prove himself at the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding," but, when life happens, family comes first.
