IFBB PRO EDUARDO CORREA CONSIDERS MASSING UP FROM 202 CLASS TO OPEN CLASS

Posted in: Articles by ProSource, Gossip, Andrew Oye's Pro Muscle Report
By Andrew Oye | Jan 28, 2011

IFBB PRO image The Item: Career Updates

The Scoop: Recently reported: IFBB Pro Eduardo Correa De Silva is considering a move from competing in the 202 Division to the Open Division. Launched in 2008, the IFBB Pro League 202 Class gives smaller or lighter-weight pro bodybuilders the opportunity to compete on a more even playing field, as opposed to the Open Class in which competitors can carry infinite mass.

The "So What?": A Brazilian bodybuilder known for achieving a high level of conditioning, Correa placed 3rd at the Olympia 202 Showdown in 2009 and 2010. Both IFBB Pro Kevin English (202 Olympia Champion in 2010 and 2009) and IFBB Pro David Henry (202 Olympia Champ in 2008) have previously competed in the Olympia Open Division.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Perhaps Eduardo Correa saw a pattern in placements and no longer wants to play "third wheel" in the ongoing English versus Henry war. Or, like others in the 202 Class, he found it arduous to cut down to 202 lbs. and will mass up to compete in the Open Class, where the prize money is better.

An aesthetics-prone athlete playing the mass game with Open Division competitors (who creep close to 300 lbs.) faces two risks - either compromising his lines or living in limbo like IFBB Pro Ronny Rockel, a contender with a great physique who finds it difficult to crack the very top tier of the Olympia finals with the super-massive Open Class athletes. Correa's structure is prime for reward if he chooses to go this route and his plan is executed well.
