ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Curtis Bryant won 1st place at the 2012 IFBB North Carolina Pro Bodybuilding Championships, hosted by former Masters Olympia contender and retired IFBB Pro Quincy Roberts. IFBB Pro Tricky Jackson was the 2nd place finisher. Taking 3rd place was IFBB Pro Guy Cisternino. IFBB Pro Raul Carrasco Jimenez finished in 4th place, and IFBB Pro Oliver Adzievski nabbed 5th place.

The remaining field of physiques: IFBB Pro Robert Belisle (6th), IFBB Pro Charles Dixon (7th), IFBB Pro Ahmad Ahmad (8th), IFBB Pro Vince Wawryk (8th), IFBB Pro Marvin Ward (10th), brother of IFBB Pro Roelly Winklaar (Arnold Sports Festival's 2009 Arnold Amateur winner and 2-time IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships contender) -- IFBB Pro Quincy Winklaar (11th), IFBB Pro Panexce Pierre (12th), IFBB Pro Jimmy Canyon (13th), and IFBB Pro Roger Ferrer (14th).

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System: (1st automatic qualification, 2nd - 4 Points, 3rd - 3 Points, 4th - 2 Points, 5th - 1 Point) applies to IFBB Pro League athletes' eligibility to compete at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (September 29) in Las Vegas to face reigning Olympia 212/202 Showdown champion IFBB Pro Kevin English. IFBB Pro Roxio Tapia, who had been on the pre-show contestants list, was a did not compete at this contest. Curtis Bryant earned his IFBB Pro card at the 2008 NPC USA Bodybuilding Championships, and this marks his first victory in a pro-bodybuilding contest.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Curtis Bryant surprised everyone who assumed the North Carolina Pro Championships would be a race between veteran competitor Ricky "Tricky" Jackson and New Jersey iron lifter Gaetano (Guy) Cisternino. Good for Bryant -- who had been off the competitive map for nearly three years, previously landing in 7th place at the 2009 Atlantic City Pro Bodybuilding Championships (where IFBB Pro Flex Lewis won the 202 Division and IFBB Pro Gustavo Badell won the Open Division). I mentioned in the last installment of my column that athletes like Raul Carrasco Jimenez, and now Bryant, need to make noise in the 212 Division, especially with top contender IFBB Pro David Henry back on the scene. In North Carolina, they both barked.
