The Item: Special Appearances, Pro Seminar
The Scoop: Just Announced: Retired IFBB Pro Shawn Ray hosts another Shawn Ray Muscle Camp this weekend (June 4). The first edition in the southeastern region, the latest event will be held at Powerhouse Gym in Tampa, Florida, from 9am-3pm and features a Q&A seminar, giveaways and lunch.
The event promo states, "The best bodybuilder's in the world will share with you their training knowledge and nutritional wisdom to help you become a better athlete. You will have the chance to get up-close and personal with a chance to learn first hand how they became the best in the world."
The "So What?": The last Muscle Camp was held December 11, 2010, in New Jersey. This year, IFBB Pro League athletes scheduled to appear in Tampa include IFBB Pro Bill Wilmore, IFBB Pro Jason Huh, IFBB Pro Al Auguste and retired IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone (who recently participated in a roundtable discussion with fellow Hall of Famers Shawn Ray and IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler in Orlando).
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Florida is establishing itself as a bodybuilding hotbed. Shawn Ray positions these camps as "giving back" to the fans and, at this weekend’s event, that includes giving away complimentary tickets to the 2011 Tampa Pro Bodybuilding Championships and the newly re-launched IFBB Pro World Masters Bodybuilding Championships in Miami.
