Andrew Oye's Pro Muscle Report

The Item: Special Appearances, Powerlifting
The Scoop: Just Reported: When they're not competing, some IFBB Pro League athletes pull double-duty as powerlifters, throwing significantly heavier poundage than they do in preparation to step on bodybuilding stages. The latest roundup includes a "small" but mighty lifter and a Masters-level bodybuilder.
Over the weekend, 5'2", 185-pound IFBB Pro Derik Farnsworth squatted 545 lbs. for nine reps, followed by three reps of 600 lbs. at the Metroflex Gym Holiday Bash in Long Beach, CA, where it was just reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" that 2011 Mr. USA IFBB Pro IFBB Pro Steve Kuclo guest-posed. Also, in advance of his upcoming DVD release, a video clip was recently posted online of 260-pound IFBB Pro Stan Efferding deadlifting 700 lbs. without a lifting belt or wrist straps.
The "So What?": Derik Farnsworth's lift was part of a benefit for the 1736 Crisis Center. Known for his quadriceps development, Farnsworth performed his lift for the fans on hand, as well one of pro bodybuilding's "King of Quads," retired IFBB Pro Tom Platz. Farnsworth called the feat, "Just another day at the office." According to his website, 2009 Masters National Champ Stan Efferding is the #1 ranked raw powerlifter in America, the #3 ranked raw powerlifter in the world, and his 2,221-pound total is currently the highest raw total in the world in any weight class and federation.
Andrew Oye's Verdict: It's always cool to see IFBB Pros showing athletic abilities and charitable interests outside of the competitive bodybuilding arena.
