The Item: Special Appearances
The Scoop: Just Reported: This month, more IFBB Pro League athletes made stops on the guest-posing circuit at various bodybuilding and fitness events across North America. Canadian fans met legendary 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Ronnie Coleman, who appeared at the 2011 Muscle Beach Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta. Along with 2011 Olympia 202 Showdown winner IFBB Pro Kevin English and IFBB Pro Jose Raymond, 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler guest-posed at the 2011 New England Bodybuilding Championships in Boston, Massachusetts.
The "So What?": At the 2011 NPC Western Michigan Bodybuilding Championships (October 22), Jay Cutler, who also guest-posed at the 2011 Swiss Bodybuilding Championships in Basel, Switzerland, the previous weekend (October 15), addressed his defeat to the new 2011 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath in Las Vegas (September 17). In a speech following his routine Cutler said:
"I've been on a hectic travel schedule. I had a very successful year. I finished as Runner-Up at the Mr. Olympia competition. I was going for my fifth title, but fell short of that. Of course, you're disappointed when you plan to win. It's difficult, because there can only be one winner. But, in the end...I thought about all my victories and my losses - because I do have six Runner-Ups at the Mr. Olympia competition - and every year, it's a learning experience."
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Back in 2008, I reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" that IFBB Pro Jay Cutler had mentioned possibly stopping after winning three or four Olympia titles. His speech in Michigan almost sounded like a retirement announcement:
"There are a lot of positive things that sometimes come out of not winning. This year, I took a step back after I lost. As I travel to different events, I see how many great fans I have all around the world. I influence these people, not only on the bodybuilding stage but in life in general over the 20 years that I've been involved in the sport of bodybuilding. I had a goal. I became the best in the world, and it was a dream. Now I travel with that dream to promote what gave me a great life and a great career," Cutler said.
"I turned 38 this past year. I started when I was 18 years old. I'm not sure what direction next year I will be headed. I'm not sure if I'll go back to the Olympia, or take a step back and focus on the other opportunities that stand before me in life. But one thing's for sure, I will always stand as an ambassador and a champion for bodybuilding."
