The Headline: HIDETADA YAMAGISHI VOWS TO COMPETE AT THE 2010 OLYMPIA
The Item: Injury Updates/Career Updates/Contest Preparation
The Scoop: Just Announced: IFBB Pro Hidetada Yamagishi vows to step on stage and compete at the 2010 Olympia in Las Vegas next month. A few weeks ago, the ambitious Yamagishi suffered a quad injury that caused him to withdraw from the Tampa Bay Pro Finals and to miss the Europa Battle of Champions altogether.
In last week's contest-prep blog, Yamagishi posted: "Just want to let you guys know how I recover from my right quad injury. Until a few days ago, the pain was still bad and I had swelling, but it's getting better... Yesterday, no more swelling and the pain is almost gone! I still can't bend my knee because the area which was damaged is really tight. Actually I just did an MRI and I'm still waiting for the result. It should come in a few days." Another post stated: "I am really sorry this happened and I apologize to all my fans that I could not keep my word of doing every show held in the U.S. this year..."
The "So What?": In this week's contest-prep blog titled "I am going to do the Olympia!" Yamagishi writes: "Last week, I thought I was going to pull out from the Olympia due to this quad injury but it's getting better all of a sudden... The MRI result shows there is a big bruise inside the muscle but I have no tendon damage, which is great news. I have a feeling I will be able to be back to normal training in a few weeks!"
Andrew Oye's verdict: Since Yamagishi's recent withdrawals and cancellations are the first in his 17-year competitive career, it's cool to see that he doesn't want quitting to become a habit.
