The Item: Career Update, Contest Results
The Scoop: Recently Announced: Former World Champion Professional Strongman Hugo Girard finished strong in his first bodybuilding competition.
The "So What?": I recently reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" that former World's Strongest Man competitor Hugo Girard would transition from strength competition to physique competition, at the Association des Physiques Quebecois (APQ-IFBB affiliate) 2012 Quebec Open in Canada. His bodybuilding debut resulted in a 1st place finish in the Super-Heavyweight Class.
Canada's Strongest Man Champion from 1999 to 2004, Girard plans to work toward becoming an IFBB Pro League athlete. Girard will host The All Ontario Strongman Challenge at the 2012 IFBB Toronto Pro SuperShow (June 2).
Andrew Oye's Verdict: Following 5-time WSM Mariusz Pudzianowski's move to MMA fighting, the victory of fellow strongman Hugo Girard in bodybuilding adds to the line of pro athletes from other sports taking a chance at competitive bodybuilding. Former WWE pro wrestler Rob Conway took 2nd place in the Physique Division at the NPC Kentucky Bodybuilding Championships, qualifying for the NPC Nationals late last year.
