The Item: IFBB Pro League Contest Results
The Scoop: Just announced: Over the weekend, new IFBB Pro Essa Ibrahim Hassan-Obaid was victorious at the 2010 Europa Super Show in Dallas, Texas. At 5'8" and 250 lbs., Obiad was in great condition with enough detail on his frame to grab 1st place in the Open Division. In his pro debut, Mark Alvisi, at 5'9" and about 230 lbs., took the 2nd place spot. Big Bill Wilmore, who placed 2nd at this show last year, slipped a spot to 3rd place this year at 5'10" and 250 lbs. The Top 3 finishers earned qualifications to compete at the Olympia in September.
The "So What?": Essa Ibrahim Hassan-Obaid from the United Arab Emirates was the Super-Heavyweight Class Winner and Overall Winner at the 2010 Arnold Amateur Bodybuilding Championships. On another note, the Open Division results at the Super Show set off a storm of discord among bodybuilding fans and watchers, who disagree with Alvisi's placing over Wilmore and especially pre-show favorite Cedric McMillan (4th place). While 6'1", 260-pound McMillan himself admitted his condition in his pro debut could have been sharper, many felt both he and Wilmore significantly out-muscled Alvisi.
Andrew Oye's verdict: While this is not the first controversial contest result of the year (another occurred at the Battle of Champions in the 202 Class), the difference here is that critics are calling foul not only on physical discrepancies but "political" ones as well.
