For some, getting large and lean is a difficult task, for others it is a breeze. Regardless, you should choose your supplements based on your bodybuilding goals and genetic body type. Over the past few years there have been numerous products developed to help you maximize your goals and with a little homework you can create a personalized supplement regimen to capitalize on your workouts.

In anthropometry (the science of body measurement) humans are sorted into three genetically determined body types (called somatotypes), the endomorph, mesomorph, and ectomorph. Endomorphs have the genetic predisposition to store fat easily, mesomorphs are those guys who stay relatively lean but maintain a muscular build no matter what they do, and ectomorphs are those who tend to be tall and skinny. Although somatotype labeling enables scientists to put people into one of the three body types, it is well established that we are generally a blend of two somatotypes. This blend tends to occur because of each persons' differing potential to gain muscle mass (i.e, hardgainers and easy gainers).

In the following article we propose some fundamental somatotype-specific supplement stacks designed to maximize muscularity whether you are a hardgainer or easygainer. Before reading on, make an honest assessment of your somatotype (you should have a good idea of what body type you are by now) and where you stand in muscle building potential.

HARDGAINERS
Hardgainers are generally thought of as the tall skinny lean guys with fast metabolism. Although this is true for some, there are also a number of hardgainers that carry a lot of fat, where no matter how hard they train they cannot seem to get more muscular and/or lean.

ECTOMORPH
You workout hard and regularly, but your fast metabolism and predisposition to being lean is holding back your muscular gains.  Fortunately there are a number of supplements designed to help you pack on lean mass and body weight.
