ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: Contest Results, New IFBB Pro League Cards, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: Over the weekend, Akim Williams won the Overall title at the 2013 IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships in Pittsburgh, PA. Williams won the Super-Heavyweight Class, which earned him an IFBB Pro League card. Also turning pro: Heavyweight Class Winner (and Overall 35+ Masters Winner) Julius Page, Light-Heavyweight Class Winner Alejandro Cambronero, Overall 40+ Masters Winner Brad Davis, and Overall 50+ Winner Doug Dolphin.

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," 2011 North American Super-Heavyweight winner IFBB Pro Juan Morel (who nearly qualified to compete at the 2013 Olympia Weekend via the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System), had broken a consecutive four-year streak of Heavyweight Class winners taking the North American Championships Overall title. The 2012 North American Champ, rookie IFBB Pro Dallas McCarver (who won at just 21 years old) resumed the top-title wins for Super-Heavyweights. And again in 2013, new IFBB Pro Akim Williams adds to the list of Super-Heavies dominating the North American Bodybuilding Championships.

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Some people disagree with the rule that allows Masters Division contestants to also compete in the Open Division and, subsequently, claim the pro cards for both divisions, asserting that it somehow takes another competitor's opportunity to earn IFBB Pro League athlete qualification (see: 2013 Open Heavyweight and 35+ Masters results). Yet, a profitable, pro-qualifier contest that draws nearly 800 competitors (across all divisions) argues it makes sense (and cents) to allow contestants (who pay per-division entry fees) the freedom to compete in the classes (pending eligibility) they so choose.
