The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances
The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" latest roundup includes rookie pros and pros from the "golden era."
The "So What?": Two-time IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Champion IFBB Pro Branch Warren announced he will not defend the title at the 2013 Arnold Sports Festival. With reports of IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf and IFBB Pro Evan Centopani also skipping the event, odds are favoring newly crowned 2012 Masters Olympia Champion IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson and IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan.
IFBB Pro Seth Feroce and rookie IFBB Pro Brian Yersky competed at a strength challenge in New Jersey. Speaking of strength, golden-era bodybuilder IFBB Pro Tom Platz (a.k.a. the "Golden Eagle") recently explained the role of powerlifing in making him one of the original "Quad-zillas." Platz sought advice from a magazine editor as an 11-year-old with hopes of someday turning pro and was told his legs needed work.
"I started squatting. All the Olympic lifters in Detroit showed me how to squat. That's why I did high-bar squats and went below parallel..." recalls Platz, the 1981 Mr. Olympia 3rd place runner-up to winner IFBB Pro Franco Columbu. "It wasn't that I overcompensated. I think I was genetically gifted for the movement. Good quality squatting yields great results."
Andrew Oye's Verdict: The result? For Platz, some of the most impressive wheels in bodybuilding, even by today's standards
