ANDREW OYE'S image The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Strength Sports, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup, WSM Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various sports, bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup includes strong powerlifting pros and show-promoting pros.

The "So What?": Over the weekend, IFBB Pro Stan Efferding set a new raw powerlifting record with a total of 2,303 lbs. (865.2 squat; 600.7 bench press; 837.5 deadlift). Efferding's total tops the record previously set by WSM World's Strongest Man competitor and Olympic weightlifter Jon Cole in 1972, and it makes 45-year-old Efferding the first athlete in the 275-pound weight class to total over 2,300 lbs. Only 7 other athletes, of any bodyweight, have lifted totals over 2,300 lbs. (On a side note: Cole, who passed away at 71 in January of this year, competed at the inaugural WSM contest in 1977 against winner Bruce Wilhelm, Ken Patera, TV's "Incredible Hulk" IFBB Pro Lou Ferrigno, and 2-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Franco Columbu).

At the 2009 Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF) Meet, Efferding racked up a total of 2,221.2 lbs. (821 squat; 606.3 bench press; 794 deadlift), only 38 lbs. shy of Cole's all-time raw world record. As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report," Efferding also won the 2010 "World's Strongest Bodybuilder" Powerlifting Challenge -- a strength contest for IFBB professional bodybuilders staged at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (the "Super Bowl of bodybuilding") -- with a 1,428 lbs. push/pull total (628 bench press; 800 deadlift), beating previous winner IFBB Pro Johnnie Jackson's record by almost 100 lbs.

Four-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler hosts the NPC Jay Cutler Desert Classic Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, this weekend (March 30). Over a week ago, Cutler guest-posed and made a seminar appearance on a tour through Toronto, Canada. IFBB Pro Evan Centopani and U.S. Army Sergeant IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan (currently on the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series circuit and prepping for the Arnold Sports Festival's new IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Brasil) recently signed exclusive media contracts.

Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Serious powerlifting fans are quick to point out that Stan Efferding's record should/would only apply to the Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF) not the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) in which strongman Jon Cole competed. That aside, to become a pro bodybuilder in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness at the age of 41 (earning an IFBB Pro card by winning the 2009 NPC Masters Nationals) and to set strength records at the age of 45 means they don't call resilient Efferding the "Rhino" for nothing.
