The Item: IFBB Pro League News, Contest Schedule, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Just Announced: The Arnold Sports Festival will add the 212 Division to its lineup of International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) physique contests. The first-annual Arnold Classic 212 will debut on February, 28, 2014, in Columbus, Ohio, at the Arnold Fitness Expo.

The "So What?": As reported in "Andrew Oye's Pro- Muscle Report," the Arnold Sports Festival (a venture of Hollywood actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger) features 18,000 athletes from more than 80 nations competing in 45 sports and events, including bodybuilding, physique, fitness, figure, bikini, mixed martial arts, MMA, CrossFit, weightlifting, strongman and more.

According to the official event press release: "The Arnold Classic 212 will replace the Ms. International women's bodybuilding competition... The Ms. International was part of the Arnold Sports Festival for 25 years... In keeping with demands of our fans, the time has come to introduce the Arnold Classic 212... We are excited to create a professional competitive platform for some of the IFBB Pro League's most popular competitors."

Andrew Oye's Verdict:
The 212 Division (for pro bodybuilders weighing 212 lbs. and under) has grown in popularity since its inception as the 202 Division in 2008 and its weight-limit increase in 2011. This update adds another top-tier, division-specific competition to the IFBB Pro League contest schedule and bolsters the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series Point System for the Olympia Weekend 212 Showdown. The ever-expanding franchise of the IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Bodybuilding Championships includes the recent additions of the Arnold Classic Europe (Madrid) and the Arnold Classic Brasil (Rio de Janeiro).
