An Inside Look at the
Creation of the ProSource Bar
Until now, protein bars have always seemed like a good idea in theory, but not all that useful in practice. Some bars taste okay, but contain very little functional nutritional content. A few have better-quality proteins, but are a real chore to eat. And then, of course, you have plenty of bargain basement bars that aren’t good for you or your taste buds.
Here at ProSource, we have long regarded this regrettable status quo as unacceptable. In a perfect world, it should be possible for fitness-minded people who take their nutrition seriously to have real protein bar options that taste great and offer the highest-quality amino content for muscle support and physique enhancement. Proteins are our field of expertise, and so we decided to create that perfect world.
Now, after our most intensive research and development endeavor to date, comes a product unlike anything the category has seen before. This protein bar truly represents the ultimate evolution of flavor and function. Its combination of the highest protein quality, wholesome ingredients, and luscious flavor represents a complete reinvention of what the protein bar can be.
Upon completion of the finished product, we immediately knew it needed a name that truly conveyed the significance of it to our company. We knew that it needed to reflect that fact that it is the culmination of over 20 years of passionate and painstaking research and development in the science of protein nutrition. No name could better reflect that than the brand name that has stood for the highest level of protein excellence since the creation of our elite protein powders nearly two decades ago. Today we introduce the ProSource Bar. That’s how proud we are of this product.
Let’s take an inside look at the philosophy and practical steps that led to the creation of the new ProSource Bar, a major leap forward in fitness nutrition.
A Superior Protein Blend Based on the Latest Science
Right away, in the earliest stages of developing the ProSource Bar, we had a tremendous advantage over the vast majority of the manufacturers and retailers who produce protein bars. We have a reputation as protein experts earned by way of a two-decades-long, well-documented history of researching, manufacturing, and retailing the world’s best quality and most functional proteins.
And the competition? A lot of the bars you see in the “healthy foods” aisle of the supermarket are owned by a handful of mega-conglomerate agri-businesses. The motivations at Big Food, Inc. are strictly volume and profits, not cutting-edge sports nutrition research. The smaller manufacturers, on the other hand, don’t have our access to the true premium quality ingredients, our research bona fides or our hands-on manufacturing experience. Some of them, in fact, simply outsource the formulation and manufacturing of the bars to outside contractors and then slap their own brand on the finished product. This is the primary reason the vast majority of commercially available protein bars are so bland and nutritionally incomplete. And also the reason that many of the competitive bars all look and taste so similar. They are in fact cookie cutter formulas formulated and designed by some of the same companies.
At ProSource, we do things differently. Our products are custom engineered in our own laboratory and precision manufactured for the highest level of flavor and function. Our NytroWhey line of proteins has represented the gold standard for quality and performance in the field of sports nutrition, and our new ProSource bar utilizes the same core design principles and in fact some of the same elite quality protein sources. The whey isolate we use in the ProSource Bar represents the purest and most functional of its kind available today and contains virtually no lactose or fat, and is manufactured via a superior cold-processed cross-flow microfiltration method ideal at preserving the alphalactalbumin, lactoferrin, and glycomacropeptides and other critical microfractions that make whey so beneficial for athletes.
The ProSource Bar’s 15-gram protein blend also includes the highest-quality hydrolyzed whey isolate, a rapid-action amino source that starts with premium quality whey isolate and is then further micro-processed to yield extremely low-molecular-weight di- and tri-peptides for almost immediate amino absorption and assimilation by the body. Together these two protein sources are rapidly and efficiently utilized by the body, and are unrivaled in their capacity to ramp up protein synthesis and support muscle recovery and growth.
Now notice what’s NOT in the ProSource Bar. You won’t find any of the inferior, primarily plant-derived proteins that other manufacturers use to bulk up their bars and cut costs. That means no wheat protein, pea proteins, gelatin protein, or brown rice proteins. These proteins contain incomplete amino acid profiles, which mean that they contain some but not all of the nine essential amino acids the body needs to promote nitrogen retention. In particular, they are usually lacking in the branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) that are crucial to muscle repair and recovery.
Speaking of plant proteins, you certainly won’t find any soy protein in the ProSource Bar and won’t even find the soy lecithin that is in the vast majority of bars. Soy contains phytoestrogens which have been shown to actually inhibit muscle building, while also promoting fat deposition. Just the outcomes you’re looking to avoid by eating a protein bar!
Finally, you won’t even find any whey concentrates in the ProSource Bar. Whey concentrates, while still offering complete amino profiles, have lower purity and total protein yield than the premium isolates used in the ProSource Bar. Whey concentrate simply can not rival the purity or clean taste that whey isolates do.
When you’re adopting a healthy-eating lifestyle by adding more protein to your diet, you want those proteins to be the most nutritionally complete, functional, and muscle-supporting proteins possible. And that’s what you’ll find in the new ProSource Bar.
Amazing Gourmet Taste and Texture You’ll Love
Of course, all the superior protein content in the world wouldn’t mean much if the protein bar itself just doesn’t taste good. But absolutely delicious flavor, derived from the best ingredients, is the other area where the ProSource Bar truly shines.
Bite into a ProSource Bar and you’ll delight in the texture and crunch of its crispy whole wheat flour wafers even as you savor the smooth lusciousness of its creamy protein filling. This sensational gourmet flavor is in part a function of the superior purity of the ProSource Bar’s whey isolate and hydrolyzed whey isolate. ProSource wrote the book on formulating these proteins for the utmost flavor when they created Original NytroWhey and NytroWhey Ultra Elite. Those protein formulas are justifiably famous for their light, clean taste and no hint of the unpleasant aftertaste that has always plagued competing proteins. When it comes to re-inventing the protein bar, experience in the protein field pays big dividends.
Wholesome Nutritious Ingredients
Make the Best-Tasting Protein Bar
One of the reasons the ProSource Bar tastes so good is the quality and nature of the ingredients that go into it. When you look at the ProSource Bar’s ingredients label, the proteins and flavorings are simple and easily identifiable. These are simple nutritious ingredients chosen for their functionality and easy digestibility.
If you consume other protein bar brands, you’re probably familiar with the unpleasant feelings of bloating and gastrointestinal distress that occur within minutes of finishing one. If these bars are supposed to be good for you, why don’t you feel good after eating one? Perhaps a look at their ingredients panels will offer a clue.
Public Enemy No. 1 when it comes to stomach upset and poor digestion is sugar alcohols like maltitol, xylitol, erythritol, and sorbitol. Sugar alcohols were all the rage a few years ago because they were said to have a lower impact on blood sugar levels, which allowed protein bar manufacturers to emphasize lower carb counts for their bars. The problem is, sugar alcohols generate lower glycemic indexes because they’re partially indigestible. And your body reacts to them in an entirely predictable way; it struggles to try and digest them and then instead rushes the offending substances to the nearest available exit. In fact, many protein bars that contain sugar alcohols now carry warnings about the laxative effect and gastrointestinal distress they cause. The bottom line is that sugar alcohols have absolutely no place in a healthy diet.
Next up on the Digestive Public Enemies List is extraneous fiber content. Everybody likes fiber, right? It’s supposed to be good for you. Cleans out your digestive tract. Protein bar manufacturers love to add fiber to their bars because they can say it’s “healthy.” They also love fiber because it’s a cheap filler they can use to bulk up their bars and make them less expensive to
This is precisely the reason that consumers of those types of bars can literally watch their stomachs blow up almost immediately after eating one, followed by hours of gas and discomfort. Yes, fiber is important, but not in your protein bar. In fact, in addition to causing bloating and gas, this artificial fiber also interferes with efficient absorption of the protein. You won’t find any cheap artificial fiber content in a ProSource Bar. Do you want high-quality natural fiber? Here’s our advice: Eat a bowl of oatmeal in the morning.
Amazingly, we haven’t even gotten to the junk fillers and gelatins that pad out the contents of most protein bars. These fillers – glycerine, useless gelatin protein, sodium caseinate, and others – bulk up the bar and the latter are even counted toward the total protein content of those bars, despite providing no nutritional value at all.
And finally, most protein bars contain a laundry list of mysterious binders, emulsifiers, and nasty preservatives. Ammonium bicarbonate, anyone? It’s the white powder they use in fire extinguishers. Propylene glycol? Potassium sorbate? The less said about these, the better. The ProSource Bar is refreshingly free of these harsh ingredients that serve no meaningful function.
The ProSource Bar: Powerful Nutritional
Support for a Strong, Healthy Body
What’s the most important test a protein bar must pass in order to be worthy of your trust and money? It has to be good for you. When we at ProSource decided to create a new and better kind of protein bar, this was our guiding philosophy. Make sure it contains plenty of pure, powerful, highly functional protein that provides real support for muscle and a fit, lean physique. Make sure it is centered around truly functional and nutritious ingredients with no mystery additives. Make sure it tastes good. Make sure it’s really good food.
Once you taste a ProSource Bar and you experience how easily digested and truly satisfying it is, you’ll never look at all those outmoded protein bars, based on cost-cutting and dietary fads, in the same way again.

Enjoy every crunchy, creamy bite and rest easy in the realization that you’re fueling your workouts and your active healthy lifestyle to the fullest with the best proteins on earth.
