The arrival of a new ProSource Supplement Catalog is always cause for celebration among serious athletes. And rest assured, this winter’s catalog is packed with all the phenomenal savings and expert reviews of top-brand products you’ve come to expect from us.
One of the great things about coming to work every day at ProSource is you get to meet great people who have accomplished amazing things. One such person who has made a big impression on all of us here is Yuri Diogenes, a man who progressed from being seriously, morbidly obese to stepping on-stage as a ripped and rock-hard bodybuilder at an NPC-sponsored physique event in Texas.
When that spotlight hit Yuri and the crowd applauded, it represented the culmination of two long years of hard work and discipline in the gym and a total commitment to a new and healthier lifestyle. The man who had once despaired at the notion of keeping up with his 3-year-old daughter, who once regarded climbing a flight of stairs as a daunting chall...

Here it comes, guys. The days are getting longer, and the first day of spring is upon us. For many people, that means it’s time to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and commune with nature.
But not for you. As a person dedicated to the fine art of physique enhancement, you know it’s time to heed the call of the iron with increased urgency, while focusing on nutrition with renewed intensity and discipline.
Why? Because the first day of spring means that summer is just 90 days away, and NOW is the time to put the final touches on a physique that will strike awe into the hearts and imaginations of everyone you encounter in the summer months to come.
Did we say, “final touches?” What we meant was adding 15 pounds of rock-h...
If physique transformations were easy, everyone would be doing them. But out in the real world, change comes hard. Some people get off to a good start, but lose their way. Plateaus prove intractable; family issues and work commitments intrude. Some people just never reach their goal. And then there's Roger Romance. ProSource's Transformation of the Year athlete has traveled a long, long way to get where he is today.
You would never guess the truth if he didn't tell you, but not so long ago Roger was a "train wreck." That's the phrase he uses to describe a situation in which he lost his house, investment properties, cars, and savings to the home mortgage collapse, as well as his health and well-being to devastating exha...

If you're an athlete who takes his physique and performance goals seriously (and we know you are, or you wouldn't be here), you're probably familiar with the constant blur of activity surrounding some of the most-hyped brands in the thermogenic category. Some of these products seem to be "reformulated" every few months or so. You may find yourself wondering
why they need to be re-invented so often . . . and what, besides the package design, is really changing.
The research and development innovators at BioQuest do things differently. In 2008, they introduced their flagship weight-loss catalyst BetaStax, the product th...

Along the way, he's created some of the greatest stories ever told in the ring. Now it's your time to take on the most accomplished champion of all, Kurt Angle, one on one.
On Thursday, July 25th at 1pm, Kurt Angle will be taking your questions, no holds barred. Ask him about the toughest wrestler he ever faced. Who did he fear? Who did he respect? Ask him about what it's really like behind the curtains and beyond the spotlight of pro wrestling, the Greatest Show on Earth. Ask him about the feuds, the betrayals, and the triumphs he's been a part of in 15 years in the pro ring. Ask him about what it takes to win an Olympic Gold Medal.

If MuscleTech supplements work for Phil Heath and Branch Warren, that's good enough for the legions of aspiring bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts that purchase MuscleTech products every day. Recently, we sat down with representatives of MuscleTech and talked
about a wide range of topics currently impacting the industry, and to
see what keeps MuscleTech on top of its game.
In an industry where companies sometimes rise and fall like the tides,
it's comforting to know that some organizations are reliable over the
long haul. For the last 18 years, MuscleTech has been cementing its position as a leader in the supplement industry. The company has experienced incremental growth, never cut corners, and never threw in the towel. Today, they sponsor both the reigning Mr. Olympia, Phil Heath, an...
When pro football's championship game kicks off on Sunday night, one player on the field will have the unique experience of having played for both teams looking to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Tavares Gooden was drafted out of the University of Miami in 2008 by Baltimore and eventually started at linebacker opposite the legendary Ray Lewis. Three years later, he was signed by San Francisco and has since established himself as one of the league's premier physical forces on special teams, leading a unit that wins the field-position battle week after week.
Tavares has played for both these proud franchises and has learned much from both head coaches, brothers John Harbaugh (Baltimore) and Jim Harbaugh (...
Over the past few decades, it would appear that the original pillars American business and manufacturing were built upon have been in sharp decline. Where many companies once valued quality and service above all else, they now focus first and foremost on profits and costs. By producing inferior products at much lower costs, these companies have created an environment in which it is difficult for others to market high-quality products at competitive prices.
Since being founded in 1996, ProSource has been in a unique position to buck this trend. Shortly before the advent of the Internet, ProSource began as one of the supplement industry's many mail-order catalog companies. It was in this early stage that we first set ourselves apart from the competition by making use of our unique Direct-to-Consumer business model. By offering our own ProSource brand supplements exclusively through our catalog, we were able to cut out the middle-men and formulate our products with the highe...

Bodybuilders come and go, but no one will ever replace Big Ron. Next week, when the Masters Olympia begins in Miami (December 7th and 8th), you can be sure that Coleman's legion of fans will be out in force to see the legend as he takes the stage for a guest posing stint. A few years removed from the last of his record-setting eight consecutive Mr. Olympia titles,
With New York languishing at 3 wins and 5 losses midway through the 2012 NFL campaign, and a quarterback controversy swirling in the Meadowlands, fans are looking for positives in this rough season. One bright spot is
defensive lineman Muhammad (Mo) Wilkerson, an aggressive, physical player who has elevated his game and is getting better week after week.
A 2011 first round draft pick who immediately seized the starting role in his rookie season, Mo was called upon to help make the defense stronger. Standing 6'4" and weighing in at 315 lbs., the Temple graduate was expected to dominate opponents' offensive lines with athleticism, speed and power right from the start. But Mo didn't live up to his own high expectations.
"I had a pretty good year," he says of his 49 tackle, 3 sack rookie performance, "but I knew I could play better. Stats aren't important to me, especially if we're not winning."
Here at ProSource, we live by the motto "Strength Through Adversity," and we've certainly had our share of adversity in recent days. SuperStorm Sandy roared in, making landfall right over our heads here at the Jersey Shore and leaving devastation in its wake. But we're happy to say that we've emerged unscathed, and the nation's largest all-in-one supplement headquarters, warehouse and distribution facility is operating at 100% efficiency to meet all your physique and performance needs.
Monday morning motivation is all about getting your day started with a drive that pushes you not only through your day job, but also through the gym. It goes without saying that Monday can often be the hardest day of the week to get motivated. So what if you can improve your squat max and testosterone levels in just 4 minutes? I think we would all say that's well worth four minutes of our time on what often seems to be an endless Monday.
Psychologists have known for a long time that emotions can play a critical role on our outlook in life. Most psychology research has focused on what motivates people in the workplace. And let's be honest going to the gym, putting in the time, energy, and effort is similar to...

Daniel "Boomsauce" Tyminski's introduction to CrossFit wasn't a matter of wandering into a gym to try this popular training regimen. Instead, the Long Island native first became interested in cross-training when he was stationed in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. Like many soldiers, staying in tip-top shape was important not just for physical conditioning that could be a lifesaver out in the field, but also to help relieve stress during downtime back at base camp. He recalls that one of his buddies introduced him to this new high intensity, greatly varied training style and he was hooked instantly.
"The thing I loved about CrossFit right from the start was its wide open structure -- it's all about constantly varied functional movements performed at a high intensity," Boomsauce says. "Because we didn't have much in the way of traditional lifting equipment overseas, this type of workout -- which utilized bodyweight and whatever weighted implements we could get our ...
Football's ultimate "secret weapon" at the wide receiver position is not a secret anymore. In fact, last weekend, Danny Amendola wrote his name in extra large script in the record books.
Amendola was all over the field against Washington on Sunday afternoon, hauling in an amazing 12 receptions in the first half alone, tying a league record set by future Hall of Famer Reggie Wayne in 2007. On the day, quarterback Sam Bradford threw 16 passes in Amendola's direction and football's best possession receiver caught 15 of them for 160 yards and a touchdown, powering his St. Louis team to a 31-28 win over Washington.
Danny Amendola is one of a rare breed of receivers: the guy who's always open, even when he's covered.
Amendola may have been traveling under the radar for casual fans, but defensive coordinators around the league are very familiar with the former standout from Texas Tech. Gifted with a well-rounded game built around speed,...
A Revitalized Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy Eyes the UFC's Top Ranks Once More
For the man they call "The Outlaw," May's welterweight match-up in UFC 146 against Duane Ludwig might as well have been High Noon in front of the Last Chance Saloon. A loss would have put Dan Hardy's career in jeopardy. A win was the only option.
But the Dan Hardy who stood in the Octagon on that night was a different man than the one who had suffered a crisis of motivation in the months following a championship bout loss to Georges St-Pierre in March of 2010. Standing across from Ludwig was a man who had rediscovered his focus in a new team, new training, and a new emphasis on his love for MMA. The result was a Round One knockout, as Hardy connected with a vicious left hook followed by a ground-and-pound. Ludwig scarcely knew what hit him.
Suddenly Dan Hardy is pointed in the right direction again and will face "T...
It is a staple element in every fight movie -- the hero, ravaged in the biggest bout of his life, questions himself and everything he has accomplished. In a moment of despair he looks deep inside and commits to rebuilding his body for an amazing comeback in the ring or cage.
In the case of
UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum, this is not a Hollywood tale. Following a close decision loss to a bigger, more muscular Alistair Overeem in the summer of 2011, Fabricio's rising MMA career hit a stone wall. "I was very aggressive and hit Overeem a lot, but I wasn't strong enough to get him to the ground to finish him," says the Brazilian grappler. "So I vowed then that I would never lose another bout to a fighter who was stronger or more powerful than me." As a result, he took a new approach to his training ... and turned to

Destiny has come knocking for Frank Mir, the two-time UFC heavyweight
champ, and he aims to throw open the door and make the most of it.
A couple of months ago, Mir was still on the long road to his
redemption, training for a fight against Cain Velasquez, when rumors of a
shake-up in the UFC 146 fight card began to surface. The word was,
Alistair Overeem was out, and the UFC was looking at Mir as his
replacement in the UFC 146 Heavyweight Championship fight against Junior
dos Santos. Within days, the suspense was over. Mir was in. He would
have another shot at the belt.
It was a stunning turn of events, but one Mir had earned by virtue of
three straight dominating victories against the likes of top contenders
Mirko Filipovic, Roy Nelson, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In that last
fight, the relentless Nogueira refused to submit to a kimura, and Mir ...
Exclusive ProSource Interview: Mike Sorrentino Is Ready to Lead Jersey Shore Into Its 6th Season

Here at ProSource, we've been big fans of Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and the

Big Ron vs. Dwayne Johnson? Hulk Hogan?
Kurt Angle? We Asked, Ronnie Answered.
By now, we all know how the typical post-retirement interview with a former sports superstar goes. The star talks about past glories and says he doesn't miss the spotlight at all.
Ronnie Coleman, however, as long-time fans of the professional bodybuilding know, doesn't fit the stereotype. When we sat down to talk to him at the conclusion of the 16th Annual NPC Ronnie Coleman Classic recently, Big Ronnie was in no mood to talk about the past. Ronnie Coleman is--and has always been--all about the future.
Within moments of sitting down, we found ourselves entirely off script and talking about Ronnie's love of the WWE and TNA and, amazingly, about his long-held desire to enter the ri...
The ProSource Interview With UFC Fighter Rashad Evans on the Eve of His Championship Bout
[Editor's Note: In the end, Evans / Jones in UFC 145 was as close and as competitive as everyone thought it would be. Rashad Evans went the distance in an epic clash of light-heavyweight titans, but Jon Jones got the unanimous decision, as the judges scored it 50-45, 49-46, and 49-46 in Jones' favor. Neither fighter went down as they went toe to toe in the cage, each seeking an edge against an opponent he knew so well. Evans didn't get the championship belt he coveted, but he earned the respect of Jones, who said after the fight, "Hats off to Rashad. He definitely has made a lot of leaps and bounds in his game." Now, Evans, whose record is st...
The ProSource Interview With
Bodybuilding Legend and Business Icon
Gaspari bound up onto the stage at his Muscle Beach Hall of Fame
induction recently--the physique of a serious bodybuilder hardly
concealed by a conservative short-sleeved polo and slacks--it's easy to
forget that it has been almost thirty years since he first leaped into
national prominence at the 1985 IFBB Night of Champions and 1985 Mr.
Olympia. In many ways, Gaspari is the champion who never left; he has
been both an ambassador and innovative force for the sport ever since
his retirement in 1996.
So swift and startling was
Gaspari's ascent to the peak of the profession (he was 22 years old when
he placed second in his debut at the Night of Champions, 23 when his

For many people, nutrient timing is popular because it puts you in the driver's seat for controlling all things good and bad with your diet. For researchers, nutritionists and dietitians, nutrient timing is a critical nutritional element that plugs in key nutrients at times when it's needed most. Although it appears that resistance training athletes utilize timing more often than endurance athletes, both types of athletes should use timing to
fuel their bodies and
facilitate recovery. A number of nutrients could potentially employ timing, but no nutrient continues to receive more lip service than a high quality whey protein isolate (WPI).
Your Foundation for Growth and Recovery - High Quality Protein
Hard times are getting harder. Budgets are tighter. And now, recession-weary athletes are experiencing Protein Sticker Shock.
Customers who visit some of ProSource.net's bigger retail competitors are reporting jaw-dropping price increases on powdered proteins, particularly products from high-profile manufacturers with high overhead and ancillary costs.
Here at ProSource, we know the market pressures our competitors are facing. Consumers are spending less in an effort to extract maximum bodybuilding value from every dollar spent. At the same time, all kinds of food prices are rising, and as is often the case, protein production has proved particularly vulnerable to market conditions consisting of increased grain costs, decreased supply, and increased overseas demand for protein.
It's a perfect storm of adverse retailing conditions that is bankrupting lesser manufacture...
For bodybuilders, catabolism is the ultimate enemy. This is the metabolic state in which the body is mercilessly breaking down complex tissue (like muscle) into simpler forms, often in a desperate quest for energy. In other words, when you're catabolic, the body is ripping apart your hard-earned muscle tissue. That's definitely not good.
Instead, your ever-present goal is anabolism, the opposite metabolic action where the body is hard at work assembling proteins into complex muscular formations, increasing the retention of protein in muscle and causing hypertrophy (a fancy word for growth).
Pablo Sandoval's New Physique Spurs Hope
for a World Series Repeat in San Francisco
The dog days of August are here, the Giants are at the top of the National League West, and all is well in the world of
Pablo Sandoval. The slugging third baseman has been striking fear into the hearts of National League pitchers all season long. Well established in the clean-up slot in the Giants' potent lineup, Sandoval was hitting .304 as the month began, having just come to the end of a 22-game hitting streak. Sandoval has also been showing a new cat-like swiftness in the field as well, with several highlight-reel grabs already to his credit this year. Such is the respect afforded to Sandoval that he earned a trip to the
All-Star Game this year despite missing several weeks with a broken hand. And now, the Giants have gone out an...
Superstar Pro Wrestler Kurt Angle is in Peak Form
As He Considers His Options for 2011 and Beyond
When it comes to tallying professional wrestling achievements, few stars past or present can tick off an incredible list like that attributed to
Kurt Angle. Fourteen-time world champion in the biggest promotions in wrestling, including the WWE, WCW and now TNA. One of only two pro wrestlers to have held every currently available male championship in the WWE. The second wrestler to ever win TNA's Triple Crown and the first to hold all of TNA's championships simultaneously. In 2010, the Wrestling Observer newsletter named him the "
Wrestler of the Decade of the 2000s," for obvious reasons.
And, oh yeah, he also has an Olympic Gold Medal for winning the heavyweight freestyle competition at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, ...
Marine Corps Sergeant David Douglas
Takes Aim at the Power Lifting Elite
You'd never know it today, but the man they call
The Beast was once turned away by his high school football team because he was too small to play any position on the field. He can laugh about it now, but that rejection lit a fire within Marine Corps
Sergeant David L. Douglas that burns brightly to this day. He is, to put it simply, not a man who's willing to take "no" for an answer, especially in regard to any issue involving competition, performance, and his physique goals.
Now 6 feet tall and 274 pounds of sheer shock-and-awe brawn, Sergeant Douglas aspires to be one of the top power lifters in the world. His amazing accomplishments to this point--he has already lifted more than 600 lbs in bench and deadlift in compet...
These are the words baseball
insiders use to describe the competition at the
Arizona Fall League. An
elite baseball league that plays its season each October in the desert
sun of Phoenix, the Fall League invites only prime, just-on-the-cusp
prospects to play. Its alumni bears resemblance to a latterday All-Time
All-Star squad, many of its storied participants honored with plaques
gracing the walls in Cooperstown.
Each year a new cluster of stars break
into the bigs and with increasing regularity these phenoms previously
wore a Fall League uniform.
Cincinnati's Pitching Phenom Mike Leake Makes the Jump from College Ball to the Big Leagues
After Cincinnati picked PAC-10 Pitcher of The Year
Mike Leake with their first pick in last year's major league baseball draft, the organization fully expected a bright big league future out of the young right hander. What they didn't expect was for that big league future to start later that spring. Astounding everyone, Leake showed up at spring training pitching like a polished veteran and demonstrated skills and mental fortitude far beyond his years.
In fact, he pitched so well, he ultimately became the first player in over twenty years to make a major league roster without having ever played in the minors. Still flying somewhat under...
It all starts with a dream. For
Monty Mabry, it started with the superheroes in the comic books of his youth, continued on to winning the NPC Mr. Virginia Overall Championship in 2003, and on to the present day, where he is more determined than ever to win his IFBB Pro card and compete against the greatest physiques the bodybuilding world has to offer.
Monty's bodybuilding career is a testament to the fact that there are no overnight successes in his chosen sport. In recent years, he has experienced the highs (including several excellent finishes in NPC Nationals competitions) and the lows (crises in his personal and family life that have derailed his training). In 2006, his career reached a crossroads of sorts when he competed in the NPC USA Championship in Las Vegas and did not place in the Top 15.
A lesser man might have walked away at that point, but Monty used that finish as a learning experience. ...
Former High School Athlete Recovers His Rock-Hard Physique
"Former Athlete Physique Syndrome."
You see it at every level, from high school to the pros. Athletes live a highly active lifestyle. They work hard, play hard ... and eat a lot. Then comes the day when the uniform comes off. Suddenly, the practice sessions in the hot sun are over, time spent in the weight room declines dramatically. But the former player still eats like an athlete at the training table.
The result? Yesterday's rock-hard athlete is today's soft couch potato. Just ask
"In high school I played baseball through my junior year," Anthony ...
Sometimes that has meant persevering in the face of the loss of loved ones. Or using water weights and a tree when no other equipment was available for a workout. Sometimes it meant resorting to some unusual methods of bolstering protein intake. (We'll let Ryan tell you that one.)
bodybuilder, trainer, fitness consultant and entrepreneur, Ryan's approach to fitness is the perfect embodiment of the type of hard-nosed, no-nonsense type of dedication we're always looking for to profile in this segment. In fact, Ryan's story is the most inspiring we've encountered to date.
Like most of us, Ryan grew up dreaming of one day competing athletically at a professional level. His road to bodybuilding and personal-training success has been characterized by daunting challenges and hard-won triumphs. He shared the details of those experiences with us, as well as the life philosophies he has forged along ...
If you're serious about getting big and lean, it's time you knew about a new
protein powder called Vectron. This powerful
protein supplement is scientifically engineered to help men lose fat and muscle up.
Losing body fat can be a very tricky endeavor. To achieve real fat loss, you need to burn more calories than you consume, a school of thought supported by the basic laws of thermodynamics. For the general public, that's not such a complicated equation, but for bodybuilders, the trick is to burn calories while holding onto muscle mass.
While a lot of people turn to
weight loss supplements, the secret that has gradually come to ligh...
MMA Legend Chuck Liddell Talks Comeback, Training, And His New Supplement Line

Postpone Fatigue and Enhance Performance with Beta Alanine
Beta-alanine has quickly become a favorite performance supplement based on the simple fact that it works. This nonessential amino acid has proven itself time and again in studies for enhancing performance in trained athletes and regular joes alike.
The bulk of the recent research has focused more on how it works rather than if it works. The gist is this: beta-alanine increases muscle carnosine content, which helps stave off muscle fatigue. Of course, there's more to the story than that.
In the body, beta-alanine and another nonessential amino acid, L-histidine, are used together to synthesize carnosine. Beta-alanine is the rate-limitor of that reaction, though, which means that its availability determines how much car...
Maximize your strength in the king of all upper body exercises with this helping of iron-clad wisdom
Ask a guy to show you his muscles and he'll likely flex his biceps. But if you ask him how strong he is, he'll likely tell you how much he benches. That's because the standard barbell bench press is the most basic and widely used measure for upper body strength there is. No disrespect to proponents of heavy back training, of course, but when was the last time you heard about a barbell rowing contest, or a football recruit losing his draft status because his pull-up total wasn't up to par? When it comes to true alpha male status, the bench press is simply in a league of its own. It stands to reason that you'd want to improve yours.
Luckily, you can add pounds to the bar -- and quickly -- if you're following the right protocols. Too often, guys just get under the bar and push, with no concept of how much weight they should be using, how many reps the...
Six exercises that prove you can build muscle with just one dumbbell.
If the saying "Two heads are better than one" is accurate, wouldn't that logic also hold true for dumbbells? Not necessarily. In fact, sometimes using just one could prove to be one of the single best change-ups you can make to kick-start your gains.
The following six compound exercises are usually performed with an Olympic bar or a pair of dumbbells. In your upcoming workouts, try leaving one 'bell on the rack instead, introducing a whole new dimension to your training, and your results.
Breakthrough New Pump Catalyst Radically
Outperforms Standard Arginine-Based Agents
Has any area of bodybuilding science advanced and evolved as rapidly as the pre-workout category? Ten years ago, pre-workout supplementation meant slugging down a bottle of sugary Gatorade. Five years ago, the first arginine-based NO potentiators arrived to great fanfare. And now, it looks like the science of pre-workout supplementation may have a new springboard with an entirely new kind of
bodybuilding performance maximization catalyst found in Alpha Fury by BioQuest.

Your path to fitness and a better body begins here, with our three-month workout, cardio, nutrition and supplement program - everything you need to succeed.
Sometimes, the hardest part of exercise is committing yourself to do it. Carving the time out of an already hectic schedule, staying focused on your goal as changes come slowly to your physique, staying on course when temptations persist - all have derailed many people with the best of intentions.
Knowing such challenges await is the first step toward overcoming each of them. Staying consistent and going to the gym even when you don't quite feel up to it. Getting up for that morning run when the alarm buzzes you out of a warm bed at 6 a.m. Steering clear of the favorite comfort foods when a salad and chicken breast doesn't seem quite "exciting" enough for dinner.
Yes, that part is hard enough, and success or failure is ...

Aminoacidemia. Now there's a word you don't hear every day. But before you dismiss it as some sort of random scientific jargon (or a school for amino acids), know this: aminoacidemia may be one of the most important keys in nutritional science to unlocking new muscle growth, one that you're probably not taking full advantage of.
In technical terms, aminoacidemia refers to the flooding of amino acids - the building blocks of protein and of muscle mass - into the bloodstream. How quickly and efficiently this process can...
Have you looked at the nationwide weather recently? High temperatures and high humidity seemingly all across the country and the East Coast has particularly been getting hammered. Whether you are a weekend warrior or an everyday athlete, proper hydration and awareness of dehydration are critical. A few simple steps are important to keep you from suffering any form of heat illness and this article will guide you along. So grab a cold beverage (we're making improvements already) and we'll get started.
When we exercise, our bodies produce heat and lots of it as a by-product of the work being completed by our muscles. It doesn't matter if you are going for a short jog, a bike ride or even mowing the lawn. Your muscles are working and the work res...
Advanced form of whey hydrolysate supports glycogen replacement and enhanced muscle recovery via sugar-independent mechanism of action
Over the past couple of decades very few supplements have received as much scientific attention and peer reviewed support as whey protein. Over the years whey has been unequivocally shown to increase anabolism/protein synthesis, decrease body fat, decrease catabolism, and support the immune system and hormone production. As a result, with proper whey supplementation, one can expect quicker and more complete recovery between exercise bouts, resulting in greater gains in shorter time. It must be noted that ongoing research on whey protein has led to some of the most innovative and effective protein supplements ever offered.
The World Cup was all very nice, but when we think of "football," we're not thinking of the game with the round ball and a final score of 1-0. We're thinking of the game with the pointy ball and all the excitement.
This is the time of year when the pads start poppin', the adrenaline starts flowing, and the two-a-days are physically devastating enough to make grown men weep. It's the time when the next generations of Larry Fitzgeralds, Chris Johnsons and Adrian Petersons strap on their helmets and head out onto the gridiron in pursuit of their NFL dreams.
August brings with it a special kind of challenge for every football player at every level of the sport. Interior linemen need size and more size. Running backs, safeties, and linebackers need to build core strength and stamina, while keeping their weight within an optimal range set (and enforced) by the coaching staff. Wideouts and cover guys need to get lea...
When starting a
bodybuilding program, the tendency is to put everything you've got into the workouts, hitting the gym with a full-on enthusiasm and intensity. That's the fun part. The not-so-exciting part? Overhauling your diet, which likely means restricting some foods you love, and if you're battling a metabolism on hyperdrive, stuffing yourself with calories like Joey Chestnut at a plate full of hot dogs.
The tough-love message is simple: Get over it. The nutritional advice we have isn't overly complicated either, and allows for a smooth transition into a muscle-building menu plan. Here are five essential tips to get you started.
Cut out the most obvious sources of sugar and fat in your current diet...
Here we are, smack dab in the middle of beach season, and you're still conflicted when you step out into the sand as to whether you really want to strip off your shirt. For all the good intentions, your diet isn't exactly what you envisioned, and your core workouts are still just a little too half-hearted, leaving your body looking more sloppy than shredded.
If that describes you, there's good news - starting today, you can reignite your midsection meltdown, starting with these 9 training tips. By reengineering your ab routines around this advice, you can be sure no rep goes to waste in your quest for ... well, a lot less fat and a bit more muscle around your waist.
If there is anyone in the
UFC today who knows what it takes to be a winner, it's the original Ultimate Fighter,
Forrest Griffin. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion has come a long way since his reality show roots to become one of the faces of his sport and a prime example of the power of hard work, discipline and perseverance. As anyone who knows Forrest can attest, he'll be the first to admit that he's not the best fighter in the world, but he is determined to work harder than anyone out there to be the best. Dedication to constant improvement is what drives Forrest through the days, weeks and months of grueling preparation that lead up to a fight, and it would be hard to find anyone who demands more from their body and their training. Watching the man go to work in the gym often feels like wit...
New Jersey Devil Jamie Langenbrunner is still going strong in the NHL, and has a third Stanley Cup on his agenda.
Jamie Langenbrunner has carved out a 15-year-career in the
National Hockey League (NHL) by being tough, tenacious and gritty. He's not the flashy type to put up 80, 90, or even 100 + points a season. That's not his game; his game is being an unselfish player and veteran leader.
The New Jersey Devils team captain, who turns 35 in July, is not a rah-rah type guy either. The stoic Devils right wing has a powder-dry wit and an easy going demeanor. He's a blue-collar guy, just doing his job every time he laces up the skates. He leads by example, and the younger guys on the team are quick to take notice of his professionalism. Part of the organization's success is that the Dev...
Don't let another summer pass you by. Lean out while protecting muscle with these three easy tactics.
Is your body beach ready? If not, there's hope — if you're willing to watch what you eat, supplement wisely and get more exercise. These three quick-hit tips can help.
1) Burn Calories with a Powerful Thermogenic
One of the most popular strategies for a "summer shape-up" involves increasing thermogenesis (aka, calorie burning) inside the body with one of the popular weight-loss thermogenics on the market. Of course, not all thermogenics work with same degree of effectiveness. At ProSource, one product has been a consistent leader in the Diet & Energy category of the Best in Class consumer polls since its introduction. That product is BetaStax from BioQuest.
Support your bodybuilding regimen and rebalance your diet with a more precise intake of carbohydrates and protein.
When it comes to extreme muscle mass gain, some of the best advice I ever got probably came from my mom. "Everything in its proper place and time," she used to say. In dietary terms, what she meant by this is that every ingredient in a well-rounded diet plays an important role in achieving maximum well-being and performance. Take one out, and the other ingredients don't work as well. This is especially true of carbs and proteins, w...
Tommy Hanson Looks To Continue His Torrid Pace in 2010
With the start of the baseball season just days away, Atlanta Braves pitcher
Tommy Hanson is preparing for just his second season — first full — in the big leagues. A year ago at this time, the young phenom was still battling just to prove he deserved a spot in the Braves starting rotation. He's now viewed by many as the ace of the staff.
Ultimately getting called up in June of last year, Hanson didn't take long to impress, shutting out both the Red Sox and Yankees just weeks into his debut. More than living up to the hype Hanson was flat out dominant in his 20 big league starts and routinely drew comparisons from manager Bobby Cox to another pitcher he managed years before ... future Hall of Fame lock John Smoltz.
Ultra-Hydrolyzed Proteins Emerge as
the Key to Extreme Muscle Growth
When it comes to protein supplementation, the Golden Rule hasn't changed: Quality still beats quantity. However, in light of recent scientific investigation, it has become apparent that the Golden Rule should be amended as follows: "Quality still rules, but timing is all important."
Even as you're reading this article, there's a massive transformation going on in our understanding of how and when the human body adds lean muscle mass in response to the combination of resistance training and targeted nutrition. In essence, what scientists are coming to realize is this: "Fast" isn't nearly fast enough. After an intense workout ends, you have ninety minutes to two hours, at most, for real growth. During this brief period...
Five Tips for Integrating Effective Cardio Exercise into a Successful Muscle-Building Plan
As a personal trainer, one question I get more than just about anything else is, "will cardio undermine a mass-gain weight training regimen?" For years, many in the hard-core bodybuilder community preached against incorporating cardio and/or aerobic training with an intense mass building regimen. The argument being that the two are counterproductive; that cardio literally eats away at muscle gains. However, contrary to this once popular "old school" belief, moderate cardio training has actually been proven to be of great benefit to those looking to get bigger and stronger, and it's also a vital aspect for increasing muscle definition.
As most of us know all too well, one of the main components of packing on additional muscle mass invo...
It was a warm evening in Phoenix last August, and the Arizona Diamondbacks were getting ready for a three-game home stand against the New York Mets. As both teams loosened up before the game, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman
Mark Reynolds stepped into the batting cage to take his hacks at some BP fodder.
A sudden hush came over the early birds who were seated throughout Chase Field, home of the Diamondbacks. Fans hurried from restrooms and vacated their spots in concession lines, scurrying back to their seats. This was not a moment to miss.
Reynolds, one of the most prominent home run hitters in Major League Baseball, was getting ready to launch some bombs into the bleachers. As Reynolds cranked the first pitch over the left field wall, a surge of excitement carried beyond the luxury boxes and into the outfield bleachers.
Reynolds was in the proverbial "zone." He was in the midst of...
An Exclusive Interview with Professional Ironman Triathlete and World Renowned Fitness and Nutrition Expert Brendan Brazier
[Editor's Note: Though the great majority of bodybuilders could not imagine undertaking a rigorous workout regimen without the fuel provided by plenty of chicken breasts, egg whites, beef, and animal-protein-based supplements, there is a sizeable subgroup of high-performance athletes (primarily endurance athletes) that choose to pursue a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle to some degree. When it comes to supporting muscle growth and recovery, the efficacy and primacy of a high-protein diet derived from animal sources is, of course, scientifically well-documented. Having stated this, however, recent advances in plant-based food technologies (and in our understanding o...
Top Figure Competitor Brings Her "Best Body" to the Stage with the Help of Supreme Protein.
Back when she was solely a fitness instructor,
Ana de Castro used to hear it all the time. "Oh it looks so easy for you!" people would say. This statement, usually from a new participant in one of Ana's classes, was often followed by something along the lines of I wish I had your get-up-and-go. Or it might be, I wish I had your metabolism.
"Oh, I'd hear it all. I still do. And I wish it was easy for me, believe me," Ana says, and laughs. "I wish there was some magic to staying fit. But I know that letting things slide to the point where you're not happy with your figure can happen to anyone. I know. It happened to me."
That may seem like a surprising admission from someone who recently earned "
Best Body World Overall Champion
A dreadfully repetitive dead-end job. Another weekend spent wasting away on the couch. Chinese takeout for dinner again.
While the rest of the world dreams of climbing out of such various self-inflicted ruts, smart bodybuilders take a contradictory view. For those seeking to add bulk, ruts are actually invaluable — eating at the same six times daily, going to the gym religiously, tackling each bodypart like clockwork after a consistent number of days, and popping supplements at the most opportune windows, all combine to lead to almost guaranteed success.
But there's at least one part of the bodybuilding equation where you don't want to fall into an unwavering pattern: Exercise selection. That's because the human body is incredibly adaptive, and will adjust to any workout you put it through given enough time. Even the most hardcore training session you can imagine will stop providing results if p...

On a typical sun-drenched Phoenix, Arizona morning,
IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Troy Alves eases his silver Lincoln LS into the parking lot of Fitness One for his daily appointment with the iron. He's there to train, and when he does he's all business, but before that gets underway there are more pressing matters to tend to.
This is the stuff that Troy feels is as important to his success in bodybuilding and life as training, and he takes this time very seriously. It's the people, and today there are no shortage of them. They stop what they are doing to pay their respects to the man whose caring and kindness stand in sharp counterpoint to the stereotypes many people have about men with muscles. Tony doesn't rush them along. This is just part of his day and he gives them his complete attention, making each of them feel just as important as they make him feel.

supplementation needs are rather straightforward;
to improve the quality of our lives by shoring-up weaknesses from diet
and furthermore augmenting strategically important nutrients that might
otherwise be difficult to obtain through normal diet. That, of course,
is quite the "shopping list" of needs, yet I think it helps in deciding
on goals of supplementation and leads you into understanding why phosphatidylserine is so important. As you consider two streams of interests, athletic and general overall health, you'll understand why
PS reigns supreme in both categories.
From an athletic standpoint, much of the training talk...

Have you ever had the experience of taking a dietary supplement, taking
it consistently, making gains in the gym and not being able to connect
the dots? I mean, you're training hard, your eating clean
ninety-percent of the time, your using perhaps one new supplement and
your strength and muscle fullness are remaining more than ever before.
Can it be this mysterious white powder that you are taking a few times
per day, especially on the hard training days, that is making the
difference between the old you and new you? The
amino acid that may just be your ergogenic king is known as glutamine.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid circulating in your blood and hanging out in your muscles. There must be a reason why we have so much of this one (of 20) amino acids. Let's examine why this amino acid is special.
Whether it's the robust quality of a German beer or the dependability of a Swiss timepiece, finding the best sometimes requires a global perspective; and the same applies to supplements. Unquestionably, effective nutritional supplements need a high level of purity and potency, which requires an exhaustive worldwide search if you want the highest-grade ingredients available. You might be surprised to learn that in a day's intake of
ProSource supplements you're using tribulus from Bulgaria (AndroTest), creatine from Germany (

Quality is a trait that cannot always be immediately observed. For instance, a glass of crystal-clear water at a restaurant that looks pure can have a number of impurities that may compromise your health if taken over an extended period of time. The same applies to
creatine. Any "
100% creatine" on the market today may look as pure and clean as virgin snow, but unfortunately the harsh reality is that due to inferior raw materials and substandard processing methods some manufacturer's creatines have more than 5% chemical impurities including, in some, a carcinogenic known as DHT. That makes this highly prized supplement also one of the most highly suspect as regards quality level.
So who can you trust for a legitimate, pure source of creatine? Look to the one that uses the highest-grade raw materials and most effective testing methods for their product—Creapure® by Alz...

Spend a day with
Rashid "Roc" Shabazz and it all starts to make sense. Not that he is an IFBB pro bodybuilder that can hold his own in any competitive lineup, he certainly looks the part and has many times proven himself in battle. No, it's not where he is that is so unbelievable; it's the distance he has come to be there.
Over 15 years and a hundred pounds ago
Roc Shabazz had a dream. If you saw that same kid in the gym today, nothing but ribs and big ideas, no matter how optimistic you might be you would have to at very least chuckle at his moxie when he expressed his intentions to be a pro bodybuilder. But he did have that dream, and he is an

In the lead-up to the
2007 Arnold Classic, there were more predictions regarding who would place in pole position than elderly citizens commenting on the change of weather.
Phil Heath was the Weider "wonder kid" that everyone wanted to win so as to provide a new lease of hope for the immediate future of bodybuilding.
Meanwhile, just as many predicted that
Victor Martinez would walk away with the goodies like a naughty kid upon finding a stash of Easter eggs. Throw in a dash of
Toney Freeman and
Gustavo Badell and this made a perfect marinate of prize stealers that would cook up one of the best
Arnold Classic shows of all time.
Mixed martial artist Todd Going reveals his training and dietary battle plan as he prepares for his first light-heavyweight title fight.
It's brutal, a vicious test of mettle, toughness and skill. By stepping into the ring, you're entering a world where only your instinct and power matter. And facing you down is a competitor who wants the exact same thing as badly as you do — victory.

From soccer player to competitive natural bodybuilder, Jude Achu muscled up with the help of AndroTest.
In Jude Achu's home country of Nigeria, there's one athletic activity that rises above all others. And although he had a big, bodybuilderesque frame even as a youngster, Achu heeded the call of the world's most popular sport long before he ever touched a weight.
"Soccer was our pastime in Nigeria," he says. "I always played soccer. However, after seeing movies like First Blood and Rambo, I became motivated to grow as much muscle as Sylvester Stallone."
Achu began lifting at 14 and started filling out that aforementioned frame. Now a resident of Hamden, Connecticut -- his family moved to the U.S. when he was 18 -- the 29-year-old competes as an NPC amateur, and has a number of titles already to his credit. Colorado is known to be sunny 300 days of the year but an extra beam of sunlight was magnified in Denver over a couple more days when Shawn Ray decided to hold the inaugural The
VYOTECHShawn Ray Colorado Pro/Am Classic here. The City looked as hygienic as Jay Cutler's teeth and had plenty of restaurants and entertainment nearby to the host hotel to make this event one to remember. The convention center was within walking distance of the hotel but frequent free shuttles were on hand to drive the athletes to and from as they pleased. On the Saturday morning when the amateur competitors were about to leave for prejudging, it was noticed that the bus driver hadn't shown up to transport the athletes to the show. Heavyweight bodybuilding contender Evan Centopani has seen his muscle mass skyrocket, thanks to a solid training program and ProSource's AndroTest.
Coming off the victory in the NPC Bev Francis Atlantic States Bodybuilding Championships this past June, Evan was all about "coasting" through the summer, taking it easy until he really jumped back into training full steam for his winter growth phase. But a new supplement he discovered ended up dramatically changing that plan.
"I started taking ProSource's AndroTest and it's been absolutely phenomenal," he says. "I've been shocked ...
Junior USA light-heavyweight champ Jason Wojciechowski has seen amazing results in the gym with AndroTest.
For Jason Wojciechowski, 2005 has been a breakthrough year. In April, he won the overall title in the North Carolina State Bodybuilding Championships, and followed that a week later by taking the light-heavyweight class of the Junior USAs. However, that may be just the start for this 5' 9", 32-year-old hardgainer, now that he has ProSource's amazing new testosterone-boosting product, AndroTest, in his corner. After the Junior USAs, Jason stepped back in the weight room with an eye on the NPC Nationals this November. For that, he knows he needed to add some quality muscle size.
"I competed at 184 pounds; the light-heavy class goes up to...

The ProSource Product Testing Team Goes In Search of the Ultimate MRP
Not long ago, we were pretty much relegated to limited choices when it came to nutritionally complete meal options that addressed the specific and comprehensive needs of those engaging in rigorous training. Modern MRP's offer users many advantages that make maintaining a healthy diet regimen a snap. Among them are:

premier sports nutrition company, MHP, many bodybuilders, fans and industry insiders are predicting him to be the next Mr. O! In fact, in the press conference before the 2005 Mr. Olympia, Mr. O. himself,
Ronnie Coleman predicted Victor Martinez to be his successor to the crown. This endorsement, along with his strong 5th place finish, has put Victor Martinez in a big spotligh...
The premier event on the bodybuilding calendar has just concluded, and the ProSource team is still coming down from a massive adrenaline-driven high. As always,
Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend (held at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas) was the ultimate showcase for every champion bodybuilder and up-and-coming contender, as well as a prime-time promotional opportunity for the many equipment, supplement, and media enterprises dedicated to this swiftly expanding sport. With so many competing companies clamoring for attention at the accompanying
Olympia Expo (held in the
Las Vegas Convention Center), it can be hard to make an impression. At ProSource, however, we let our products do the talking. So, as you might imagine, the

Lou couldn't do it and neither could
Rich Gaspari or
Shawn Ray. It's just the way it is. You can't just be as good as the champ, and a few years back
Jay Cutler found out that being slightly better may not do it either. If you want to de-throne the
Mr. Olympia champ you can't just bloody his nose, you gotta knock him out! After 8 straight years of dropping to his knees and giving thanks to the lord above for one another Sandow,
Ronnie Coleman found himself surrounded by the usual compliment of officials, well wishers, and dignitaries that were joyously congratulating the
Olympia Champion, but this time it wasn't him in the spotlight, it was Jay Cutler. He didn't just win the Olympia, that's an absolutely incredible feat...
New York City is felt, even before it comes into view. It is a place that swells in the heart, just as the city's silhouette takes form against the spanning continent behind it, profound and far reaching. The first settlers facing the absence of a skyline I'm sure had an idea of what New York could become. It was, even from the start a city whose purpose seemed to push the limits of what could be possible, maybe this is why New York is the perfect setting for those who like to take out the boundaries and lets be honest, who are more customary than the
IFBB Pro bodybuilders that were gracing their presence for the magnificent highlight on the east coast....
The New York Pro.

The highlight of Ronnie's day is his training session. Everything else revolves around this.
Ronnie's training sessions take place Monday through Saturday at high noon. They last about two hours, and involve as many as three training partners. The camaraderie inside the gym where Ronnie trains is as strong as Ronnie himself. It plays an essential part in keeping him motivated, as well as his training partners. As one partner put it, "It's incredible...if you miss a day, then you'd better have a damn good excuse." While training, Ronnie and his partners move from one station to the next, each taking a spin on whatever machine or free-weight exercise they happen to be focusing on. They spot one another and offer motivation, often in the form of good-natured "taunting". Being that Ronnie hoists the heaviest loads, he performs his sets last. "I'v...
The contestants of this year's
Ironman came in the form of the Davids versus the Goliaths. That is, some came in the form of 290-lb monsters hoping to tower their way to the front runner's pole, only to be slingshot by their compact counterparts and finish looking as intimidating as Big Bird from Sesame Street. In a battle for victory, it was clearly between the Muscle of
Lee Priest and the condition of
David Henry. Don't get me wrong, Priest was in shape but Henry possessed the diced and diagonal lines and crevices that looked like they could hold a credit card within and pay out $ bills if you had bet on him to win. On this day it didn't happen, as muscle seemed to be on the judges' menu. But had the judges been on a completely fat-free diet, the Henry would have had the
Ironman trophy sitting in his cabinet. It was th...
Imagine the situation. You and a bunch of friends sit down at a Texas steak house and all order the same meal. But when your food is served, you notice all the steaks display a remarkable inconsistency. Some are fatty slabs, others are lean, whilst others are just a composite of both extremes. This best describes the overall judging criteria that were handed out over the weekend at the
Texas Super Show. In the
women's bodybuilding category held on the Friday night, a soft but muscular
Heather Foster took home victory whilst
Marika Johansson was so ripped to the bone that even her rival competitors were scratching their heads over why she wasn't requested until the fifth callout. Accordin...
The Arnold Sports Festival is a celebration of all things fitness -- and ProSource was on hand to be a part of it.
Columbus morphed into a land of giants the weekend of March 3-5 as the
Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival rolled into town. Hundreds of thousands of people converged on the Ohio capital to not only see the
Arnold Classic bodybuilding contest -- the centerpiece of the event, now in its 18th year -- but tons of other
sports competitions as well, from archery to volleyball, powerlifting to cheerleading, karate to table tennis. At the Classic Saturday evening,
Dexter Jackson defended the title he won last year, earning straight firsts on the judges-- scorecards...
In the lead-up to the
2006 USA titles, the overall winner had been predicted as if it were set in stone. Indeed, if Jerome Ferguson could have shown up on a sphinx and been tanned in gold, no one would have disputed the unconventional props. Instead the show turned out to be as unpredictable as a "Days Of Our Lives" episode with an unsuspecting Ferguson being bullied out of the top 3 by the muscle mutations of
Leo Ingram and
Robert Hatch. Omar had a grip as tight as Coleman's grasp on the Olympia crown, whilst Leo Ingram was so large his physique will have to seek planning permission if it continues this construction. Both physiques were like apples and oranges. The judges' deci...
Talk about a perfect day! For fans waiting on line, who anticipated waiting in bitter cold and possibly snow, were pleasantly surprised by the sunny 60-degree day that greeted them. Thousands turned out for what
Big Ronnie himself called the biggest crowd ever at any of his appearances (This crowd was even bigger then the last time
ProSource hosted the then 1X Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman back in 1999). The line was endless and then some while Ronnie signed autographs and took pictures with anyone who asked. Fans drove from up to 6 hours away and some even flew in from neighboring states to see the
8X Mr. Olympia. The scheduled noon-4 appearance turned out to be noon to almost 6PM as
Ronnie refused to leave until each and every fan was satisfied and got what they wanted, to meet the most accomplished professional bodybuilder o...
After almost a decade away from the WWE, the Native American Tatanka has returned, stronger than ever, but now packs a supplement "secret weapon". Here's how he staged his incredible career comeback and amazing physique transformation. In the early 90s, Tatanka was an electrifying force in the wrestling ring, battling the likes of Rick Martel, Bam Bam Bigelow, Yokazuna and Lex Luger as he reached the upper echelons of the
World Wrestling Federation. Turning his real-life, 100% Native American background -- he's a descendant of the Lumbee Nation in North Carolina, his home state -- into a memorable and resonant character, his trademark battle cry,
Tomahawk Chop and
Indian Death Drop earned him legions of fans worldwide. Then, in 1996, his promising career came to a sudden halt. At 36, he stepped away from the business...
