Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" latest roundup includes IFBB Hall of Famers and a beastly Brit.
The "So What?":
Over the weekend, Retired IFBB Pro Shawn Ray hosted the Shawn Ray Muscle Camp in Santiago, Chile. Fellow IFBB Pro Hall of Fame Inductee, retired IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone accompanied Ray in South America, where the pair dispensed training and nutrition advice to athletes at the camp and also attended the IFBB Chilean National Bodybuilding Championships.
Rookie IFBB Pro Akim Williams (who earned his IFBB Pro card at the 2013 IFBB North American Championships) participated in a powerlifting challenge in New Jersey that pitted pro athletes against fans and regular gym-goers in strength contests (where IFBB Pro Brian Yersky represented the pro contingent last year). IFBB Pro Ben Pakulski (2013 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic 2nd place runner-up) appeared at a sports nutrition store in Tampa, along with inaugural Men's Physique Olympia winner IFBB Pro Mark Anthony Wingson. 2012 Arnold Classic Europe Champ IFBB Pro Shawn Rhoden re-signed his media contract. British IFBB Pro Zack Khan made an appearance at a sports-nutrition shop in Blackburn, U.K., where he shared advice and donated his merchandise to fans. Khan's event raised funds for Philippines typhoon disaster relief and the Rosemarie Cancer Trust.
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
Regarding more Stateside camps, Shawn Ray says, "I have plans for three Muscle Camps in the U.S. in 2014." To a fan inquiring about Australia, Ray adds, "Australia? There's an idea! We did [camps] there back in 2003- me, Richard Jones, Milos Sarcev, Luke Wood, Jon Davies and more- in Melbourne and Sydney." With the Olympia Qualification Series, expanding IFBB Pro League contest schedule, and the growing globalization of the sport of bodybuilding that I have covered extensively in “Andrew Oye’s Pro-Muscle Report,” more pros should grab this opportunity to take their personas and personal brands on international tours.
