The Item: Career Updates, Special Appearances, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup

The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" latest roundup includes a Canadian giant and Olympia Qualification Series stars.

The "So What?": Over the weekend, a bunch of IFBB Pro athletes were spotted at the 2013 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships in Fort Lauderdale, FL (won by new IFBB Pro Kevin Jordan), including: Arnold Sports Festival's  2013 Arnold Classic Europe Champion and 3-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath, 4-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, 2012 Nationals winner IFBB Pro Brian Yersky, 2005 Nationals winner IFBB Pro Bill Wilmore, 2-time 212 Olympia Showdown Champ IFBB Pro Flex Lewis, IFBB Pro Lee Banks, IFBB Pro Bob Cicherillo, IFBB Pro Hall of Famers IFBB Pro Kevin Levrone and IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, as well as 4-time IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Champion, 2012 Masters Olympia Champion and 2008 Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson (who just celebrated his 44th birthday on November 25).

First-ever Nationals Champion, 8-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Lee Haney and his long-time Olympia Weekend rival IFBB Pro Rich Gaspari spoke in a tandem interview encouraging the contest winners to build off their recent victories and launch pro careers. "To win the NPC Nationals is like a dream. But once you take the trophy home and you're getting all the accolades from the success of it, you want to be able to make a living from it, too," says Haney, entrepreneur and bodybuilding ambassador. Fellow entrepreneur Gaspari adds, "This man here [Haney] made me work hard. I always wanted to beat him, but I always respected him. Coming in second place to him every time, it gave me that competitiveness and I took that into business."

Andrew Oye's Verdict:
While the industry celebrated new IFBB Pros at Nationals, on November 25, 2013, the industry learned of the passing of one of the strongest bodybuilders- IFBB Pro Greg Kovacs, 44, who earned his IFBB Pro card at the 1996 Canadian Nationals and retired in 2005, noting that his stature (6'2" and 400+ off-season pounds) was a better fit for powerlifting than competitive bodybuilding. In lighter news, IFBB Pro Dennis Wolf renewed his exclusive media contract, while 2011 Arnold Classic Europe Champ IFBB Pro Victor Martinez makes a cameo appearance in a new music video for the song "Thank You" from rap artist Busta Rhymes, featuring hip-hop stars Kanye West, Lil' Wayne and Q-Tip.
