The Scoop: Recently Reported: IFBB Pro League athletes had career updates or made recent guest appearances at various bodybuilding, physique and fitness events. The "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" latest roundup includes pros "on the go" and pros promoting shows.
The "So What?": Chatting training and nutrition, IFBB Pro Steve Kuclo just returned from a week-long tour of Australia (where 2013 Arnold Classic champ IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson just won the Australian Grand Prix Pro Championships). Kuclo hit sports nutrition shops in Perth, Joondalup, Merrlands, Fyshwick, Gungahlin and Kirwan. Firefighter/paramedic Kuclo will next compete at the IFBB Dallas Pro Championships in August.
As he prepares for the 2013 Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas, current MUSCLE INK Magazine cover athlete and reigning 2-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Phil Heath will host the inaugural NPC Phil Heath Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Houston, TX, this weekend.
After a 6th place finish in his debut at last week's IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding Championships, how does IFBB Pro Cedric McMillan handle the pressures of others' high expectations of him as the next great pro bodybuilder? In an interview this week, McMillan said he shied away from team sports for fear of disappointing others in defeat and discomfort with overt displays of victory celebration. "I didn't develop that competitive spirit, so I focused on doing stuff on my own...where I had no one depending on me. I relate winning a bodybuilding competition to being in the military," says the Army Leadership Instructor. "When you do something right, it's 'mission accomplished.' Basically, you did your job. You don't deserve a reward."
Andrew Oye's Verdict: McMillan says he's not at a disadvantage against those with a whatever-it-takes-to-win motivation, because "I take a more calculated approach." No "emotion," just a plan to accomplish a mission. If he plans to stay on the IFBB Pro Olympia Qualification Series circuit and challenge the likes of Phil Heath, IFBB Pro Dexter Jackson and IFBB Pro Jay Cutler, a tad more eye-of-the-tiger couldn't hurt. He's got almost everything else.
