Career Updates, Legends Update, Special Appearances, Special Honors, Andrew Oye's IFBB Pro Athletes Roundup
Recently Reported: The latest "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" Pro Athletes Roundup
checks-in on the happenings of legends among IFBB Pro League athletes.
Mr. Olympia runner-up IFBB Pro Lee Labrada recently posted two pieces of info that
pleased his many fans: fitness tips they can use to improve their bodies
and news about an upcoming honor for their favorite pro bodybuilder.
The "So What?":
Offering helpful advice is not new for Lee Labrada, who consistently
dispenses fitness and nutrition tips via his ongoing "Ask Lee" Q+A
series. Last week, the 54-year-old IFBB Hall of Fame athlete posted a
triceps-training photo with his son, Hunter Labrada (once on a path toward collegiate football but now pursuing competitive bodybuilding), showing that the elder has maintained the fit physique
that brought him fame in the professional bodybuilding world during the
mid-1980s to mid-1990s, when he battled the likes of 8-time Mr. Olympia
IFBB Pro Lee Haney, 6-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Dorian Yates, as well as
IFBB Pro Shawn Ray, IFBB Pro Vince Taylor, IFBB Pro Flex Wheeler, IFBB
Pro Rich Gaspari, IFBB Pro Berry DeMay and IFBB Pro Francis Benfatto, in the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness.
with the photo, Labrada writes, "If you want big arms do not neglect
your triceps. It takes focused concentration and near-perfect form to
build truly powerful and massive triceps. And let's be honest, many
people neglect their triceps in favor of the more 'glamorous' biceps.
And that's a big mistake. You see, the three muscles that make up your
triceps compose a whopping two-thirds of the bulk of your upper arm. So
if you really want to build impressive 'guns,' your best bet is to take
your triceps training very seriously."
Andrew Oye's Verdict:
One of my favorite athletes, the ever-impressive Lee Labrada (a.k.a.
"Mass With Class," who I interviewed for my MUSCLE INK Magazine "Art of
War" series on competitive bodybuilding presentation) also posted the
following exciting announcement: "For those of you who have asked me, I
will be inducted in the Muscle Beach Hall of Fame this coming September
1, 2014. If you are in the area, I'd love to meet you!" A few weeks
before the 2014 IFBB Pro Qualification Series ends with the 50th
Anniversary Mr. Olympia Championships at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend
(September 18-21), it's fitting that an honor is awarded to one of the
IFBB Pro League's best physiques to compete at the "Super Bowl of
Bodybuilding," who also earned a runner-up placing at the Arnold Sports
Festival's 1993 IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Bodybuilding
Championships. ("Incredible Hulk" TV actor, IFBB Pro Lou Ferrigno was
last year's MBHOF inductee.)
